IMAGENS CONSERVADAS: The second edition of the photography contest promoted by ANICP – National Association of Fish Canning Industries, aims to be a tribute to Women.

First and foremost, to the women of the National Canning Industry, in order to honor the female workforce of the oldest and most beloved national industry, as well as the crucial role of Women in society and the challenges they have been able to overcome.

Contest
Prize

  1. The first prize consists of a trip to the Fotografiska Museum in Berlin.

  2. The second prize will receive a value of €500 in photographic equipment.

  3. The third prize will receive a training voucher worth €300 at IPF.

  4. The three winning photographs will be promoted by the media.

  5. All participants will receive a participation diploma.

Public Prize

  1. For all the contest photographs, there will be a public voting period from September 14th to September 28th on the webpage https://anicp.pt/votacao-publico-imagens-conservadas-2023/ to select one (1) photograph for exhibition.

The winner will receive a symbolic prize.

Maria João Gala

She was born in Luanda but moved to Portugal at the age of 5. She initially studied Communication Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and then pursued a career as a teacher. She completed a postgraduate course in Design, Materials, and Consumption Management at the University of Aveiro. One day, she decided to pursue her dream of photography and studied at the Portuguese Institute of Photography, where she discovered photojournalism, her great passion. She interned at the newspaper Público and is currently a freelance photographer and regular contributor to Global Imagens, with publications in newspapers and magazines of the Global Media Group.

Ana Paula Bico

Ana Paula Bico is the Director of Nutrition and Food Services (DSNA) at the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (Direção Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária). She holds a Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology (1994) and a Bachelor’s degree in Agro-Industrial Engineering (1988). Her entire professional career has been dedicated to food regulation and control.

Sandra Farinha

Based on your degree in Anthropology, you pursued an academic path in multidisciplinarity.

You began your journey in the fishing sector as a researcher, but it was at ANOPCERCO that you continued to make your greatest contribution.

Ana Lisa Luças

Porto, 1972

Graduated in Fine Arts, specializing in Painting, from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto in 1996. Took photography and screen printing courses as elective technologies at FBAUP during the academic years of 1994/95 and 1995/96. Completed a postgraduate degree in Marketing at IPAM in 2005/2006. Works as a designer and illustrator in her own company, Can Design, established in 2000 and based in Porto. Specializes in packaging design, with clients and projects worldwide. In 2015, she was awarded a “Bronze” trophy for the packaging of an organic canned goods range for “La Gondola,” and in 2016, an “Iron” trophy for the packaging project “Leva-te o Surf,” created for CTT for surfboard transportation, both by the A’ Design Award Competition. Her works have been featured on renowned websites showcasing the best packaging designs in the world, such as Packaging of the World and Favourite Design. In 2011, she started the BART project, combining art with sports, illustrating various surfboards for national and international surfers. Her work is part of the Bordallo Pinheiro collection with a sardine design, through the Sardinhas de Lisboa competition. As a painter and illustrator, she has participated in several exhibitions.

Vanessa Teodoro

Vanessa Teodoro is a multidisciplinary visual artist who lives in Lisbon. Her academic and professional background in graphic design and advertising, as well as her childhood in South Africa, have played an important role in shaping her visual identity. Since 2009, Vanessa has been exclusively dedicated to her art and has collaborated with numerous internationally renowned brands such as Louis Vuitton, Ritz Four Seasons, Bang & Olufsen, Jaguar, IKEA, among others. The artist has a special affinity for participating in street art projects and finds great satisfaction in the challenge of painting large public murals. Her style is defined by a complex battle between graphic patterns, figurative elements, and strong contrasts, all with a touch of chaos and humor.

Sara Costa

Sara Costa began her professional career as a journalist at the newspaper Público.

She worked as a copywriter in the advertising industry and as a freelance journalist, she developed several historical research projects for various publications.

The “Loja das Conservas” is the project she has been working on for the past 10 years, allowing her to have privileged knowledge of the world of Portuguese canned goods.

Rosa Maria Fonseca

Passionate about all things beautiful, it is flowers, the sea, and nature that inspire her.

For over 30 years, she was associated with a renowned jewelry brand, and currently, she has her own fashion accessories brand, My Name is Rose, where she handles all aspects of product creation, development, and production.

She dedicates herself to the study of the human being in its entirety and seeks self-knowledge by attending retreats and workshops for personal development, which is reflected in her work.

Maria Camaroa

She was one of the pillars of Comur. She worked at the factory for 43 years, initially as a supervisor and later taking on all production tasks.

A true leader, she took pride in showing her colleagues how things were done so they could learn.

Today, at 78 years old and already retired, her eyes still light up when she talks about the “Factory.” That’s why we didn’t hesitate to invite her to join the jury of the “Conserved Images” project.

Paula Raquel

She holds a Ph.D. in Geography and Territorial Planning from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the Nova University of Lisbon.

She is a Geography teacher at the 3rd Cycle and Secondary Education level.

She served as a curator for the exhibition “Rua Direita por Orlando Ribeiro” organized by the Viseu City Council (2021).

She is a member of the Editorial Board of Mnemosine Ilustrada Cultural Association.

Narcisa Bandarra

Narcisa Maria Bandarra is a researcher with an academic title of Aggregated in Marine Sciences from the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon in 2018. She holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon, Technical University of Lisbon, obtained in 1999. She completed her undergraduate studies in Applied Chemistry, specializing in Organic Chemistry, at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology in 1989. Since 2014, she has been responsible for the Aquaculture, Valorization, and Bioprospecting Division at the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere. She also coordinates the “Emergent Biotechnologies and Seafood Processing” group at CIIMAR. With over thirty years of scientific work in the field of valorization of fish and aquaculture products, focusing on biochemistry and nutritional value, she aims to highlight their importance for consumer health and well-being, as well as their optimal utilization by the productive sector. Her scientific activity is reflected in the publication of 202 scientific articles in specialized indexed journals, participation in over fifty-eight national and international R&D projects, and supervision of seventy-eight undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and post-doctoral students from both national and international backgrounds. She serves as the national representative of the West European Fish Technologists Association (WEFTA) and has participated in the “High-Level Panel in Ocean Economy (HLPO)” initiative. Maria Luz

Maria da Luz, an entrepreneur, is the owner and manager of CAN THE CAN in Lisbon, a restaurant with a unique concept in the world, promoting the national canning industry, Portuguese canned goods, and traditional preservation methods. She is also responsible for the digital museum “Conservas de Portugal,” which showcases the research work on the history of the canning industry in Portugal conducted by Can the Can. The museum aims to preserve the memory and tell the story of the beloved Portuguese canning industry. It is the most comprehensive online museum on this topic, serving as a cultural platform open to all and has become an international reference in the field of the canning industry and the sea. CAN THE CAN is located in the most prominent place in Lisbon, Terreiro do Paço, where the city opens up to the river, and the gaze gets lost in a horizon of ancient routes.

Ana Madsen

Dr. Ana Madsen, with a Ph.D. in Fish Consumption Systems, has been studying the dietary habits of the Portuguese (and Danish) people for over 20 years. Her doctoral thesis was financed by the Ministry of Fisheries of Denmark – Danish Government. Currently, she is a professor at Católica Porto Business School. Dr. Ana Madsen pays special attention to analyzing patterns, preferences, and trends in fish consumption, always drawing parallels between Nordic and Portuguese cultures. Themes such as economics, sustainability, market agents, tradition, and communication are consistently present in her published articles and lectures.

Sandra Ribeiro

Sandra Ribeiro has been the President of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG) since October 2020.

She served as the Director-General at the Directorate-General for Employment and Labor Relations from 2018 to 2020.

She was the President of the Commission for Equality in Work and Employment from 2010 to 2014.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law, with a Post-graduate degree in Labor Law and Legislation Techniques.

Teresa Coelho

Teresa Coelho was born in 1970 in Nazaré.

She holds a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law at the University of Coimbra (1988-1993); a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations from the Institute of Social and Political Sciences at the Technical University of Lisbon, and in Public Contracts from the Institute of Legal and Political Sciences at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon; and a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from the Paris Graduate School of Management (2005).

She has been practicing as a lawyer since 1995 and has held various positions, including Deputy and Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State for Fisheries (1996-2002); Deputy to the Secretary of State for Internal Administration and Civil Protection (2005-2008); Deputy and Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State for Rural Development and Forests (2009); Deputy Director-General for Fisheries and Aquaculture (2010-2012); Director of the Internal Audit Office of Docapesca – Ports and Auctions, SA (2012-2015); and President of the Board of Directors of Docapesca – Ports and Auctions, SA (2016-2020).

She served as Portugal’s representative on the Board of Directors of the European Fisheries Control Agency (2010-2012).

She has co-authored several publications in the field of fisheries, including the book “Legislation of Fisheries, Main Regulatory Measures of the Activity” (Edições Fim de Século).

She was the Secretary of State for Fisheries of the XXII Constitutional Government.

Isabel Tato

Porto, 1966

The Secretary-General of ANICP is responsible for the overall management of the Association and the coordination of European Affairs. They are dedicated to ANICP’s public policies, engaging with public institutions and trade unions to establish agreements and consensus. They also work on knowledge management, fostering partnerships between businesses and scientific entities to promote innovation and increase companies’ competitiveness.

Sandra Maria Teixeira

Porto, 1977

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Design and a Master’s degree in Design and Graphic Production from the University of Barcelona. She founded and directs Studio RARO – Creative Synergies, a Communication and Interior Design studio. As the founder and researcher of LUMICROMA since 2014, she aims to democratize the photographic experience through an innovative project that combines art and education. From 2015 to 2017, she also founded and directed Mostrarte – Academic Exhibition of Arts and Image. She has been researching the Canning Industry since 2004, when she started her master’s degree, and her passion led her to continue this journey. She is the president of Rota das Conservas – Association for the Preservation of Memory and Cultural Heritage of the Sea, an association she founded in 2018 with the objective of rescuing the memory of the Canning Industry. She is active in the fields of Communication Design, Interior Design, Photography, Heritage, Literature, Entrepreneurship, and Training. She has received awards in the areas of design, photography, and poetry.

Teresa Nunes

Teresa Nunes é uma fotojornalista portuguesa inscrita na CCPJ – Comissão da Carteira Profissional de Jornalista, baseada no Porto, Portugal. Teresa sempre teve interesse em jornalismo e documentar o mundo através do seu olhar analítico, já desde uma tenra idade, dando os seus primeiros passos com as câmeras analógicas da sua família, fotografando férias, festas, o dia-a-dia e eventos de arte e espectáculo a que assistia. Tem o grau de Mestre em Direito Público e Internacional concedido pela Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Trabalhou como Advogada durante cerca de dez anos e, em paralelo, dedicava-se já à fotografia. Em 2017 decidiu embarcar numa nova aventura e perseguir a sua paixão pela Fotografia. Ingressou no Curso Profissional de Fotografia do Instituto Português de Fotografia – Porto, que terminou em Junho de 2019 com a apresentação do projecto CUIDA(DOR), um projecto que mostra a realidade de um cuidador informal, na sua beleza, resiliência e desafios.Em finais de Setembro de 2020, fundou o Everyday.Portugal, um projecto exclusivamente desenvolvido no Instagram e que visa documentar o quotidiano do país, dando voz aos fotógrafos documentais, fotojornalistas e novos talentos numa plataforma digital para exposição de trabalhos a um maior e diversificado público nacional e internacional. Desde 2021 que lecciona no Instituto Português de Fotografia. Teresa participou em exposições colectivas e viu o seu trabalho publicado em publicações como o Expresso, o Observador, a Visão, a Point.51 e o Everyday Everywhere, entre outros. Trabalha ainda para a agência SOPA Images.
